It's been a while since i last blogged, and to those who read my blog, Happy New Year!

I just caught The Last Samurai, and i thought it was really quite good. It's not the usual cliched plot that most movies screen nowadays ( at least there wasn't any gratuitous sex scenes), and it made me ponder about certain issues of society.

It's sad, when you walk down the streets and see so many people sporting all shades of coloured hair, but black. That we are clothed in the lastest fashion of Western brands, expressing ourselves in the American lingo. It's sad, that i too, am part of this culture. And yet, are we not Asians? Asians who had jet black hair, small eyes and fair skin.

Like the Emperor in The Last Samurai, we have been greatly influenced by the Western culture so much so that we have lost our sense of identity as Asians, and so, we lose our roots and what it means to be truely Asian. We do not realise how beautiful and meaningful our own culture is, and how we are linked to it by hundreds of generations of our ancestors. It is a pity that we'd rather persue an identity that we have no link to, and to give up our identity as Asians.

I just hope that one day we'll learn to grow to accept our own culture, and to be proud of it. If not, i think it's a shame to call ourselves Asians, but express ourselves as Westerners.
